We’re in an age where, before working with a business, people will go online to check out the business's website and reviews. They expect to see an online presence—and if they don’t, that’s a problem.

In this mini episode of Adventures in Business, Amani and Mandi dive into the world of online visibility, why it matters more than ever, and some lesser-known ways of making yourself visible and building your social capital.

What Does It Mean to Be Invisible Online?

If you have no LinkedIn, no Instagram, no website, no digital footprint at all… you're basically invisible. And while that might feel comfortable for the camera-shy among us, it's risky when it comes to your business or career. Mandi dropped a powerful stat: 68% of people read at least three online reviews before making a purchase—and that's just for everyday decisions like where to eat or what book to buy.

Imagine how much more important that digital credibility becomes when someone is choosing a service provider, a business partner, or a speaker for their event.

You Don’t Need to Be Everywhere—Just Somewhere

Here’s the good news: you don’t need to be on every single platform or go viral to be visible. Even something simple like commenting on other people’s LinkedIn posts or updating your website makes a difference.

Other low-lift ideas:

  • Post once a week on LinkedIn

  • Do a casual live stream

  • Share your thoughts in an industry-specific forum

Visibility builds trust. And trust leads to opportunities.

Mandi’s 3 Favorite Under-the-Radar Visibility Hacks

Make Your Own GIFs

Mandi has custom GIFs of herself high-kicking and celebrating—and uses them in comments to stand out in the feed. Tools like the GIPHY app make it easy, and it costs way less than traditional advertising.

Show Behind-the-Scenes Content

Whether you’re writing a book, opening a restaurant, or planning an event, people love to peek behind the curtain. When Mandi wrote her book, she asked her audience to vote on the subtitle and cover design. That built buzz and made people feel part of the journey.

Use Evergreen Content

Amani reminded us that not all content expires. Recording your audiobook? Snap a few photos or short videos. Those clips will be just as relevant next year as they are today—and you can reuse them across platforms.

Bonus: Platforms Worth a Second Look

If you’re looking to expand your reach, Amani and Mandi suggest some often-overlooked platforms that can help:

Pinterest: Great for driving traffic to websites or product pages

Reddit: Participate in niche subreddits related to your topic or industry

Community App: A texting platform where you can send updates straight to your audience's phones

Threads & Blue Sky: Especially helpful for creators and artists

And don’t forget about YouTube—Mandi admitted she didn’t use it enough during her first book launch and plans to lean in more this time around.

Stay Visible Online

You don’t have to be perfect, polished, or present on every platform. But you do need to show up. Whether it's through comments, custom GIFs, behind-the-scenes peeks, or just sharing what you’re working on, visibility helps people know, like, and trust you.

Start small, stay consistent, and don’t be afraid to show the real you.
